Special Presentation: WL FFE: Michelle Bianco

  • FFE Grant application just went out. New 50/50 raffle 1 ticket $50 or 3 for $100 which will roll out soon. To date $76306.43 has been distributed through the FEE Mini Grant program. Mini Grant app: Due Jan 6th. Grant awards will be made Feb 2017. $200-$1500 applications reviewed by WL district administrators. 3 technology packages offered this year check out the mini grant application for details.

Review of WLEA Governance Documents

  • One change: Give WLEA option to do online voting through your MEA.org account. FIX: Terms of office for officers didn’t align (now ending at end of August instead of June). These changes have been sent to MEA review committee and they will check out all the changes made to bylaws.  Then it will come back to local and members will get this to approve and vote on later this year. We also may need to consider raising local dues, still on hold for now

PLC Form for 2016-17

  • It is a google DOC with 6 questions you do at first PLC meeting, the last question reflection will be filled out at end of PLC. No information is needed to be added during the rest of the school year. PLC is responsible to keep notes for YOUR own information for renewal of your certificate if YOU get audited (who, agenda and brief notes)

New Court Case for Dues in Arrears

MEA new law firm taking 6 former members to court that owe significant money. We are also sending in members to small claims court for arrears monies.

Crisis Committee: WLEA needs a standing crisis committee we have not had one in a while.  We need to start having a presence in many areas (board meetings and other event). This work needs to come through a crisis committee. More to come on this.

  • Lame Duck is coming; Between now and Christmas. Begins Nov 29 (3 days a week for 9 days) This is when legislature does DAMAGING THINGS TO US. ATTACK ON OUR PENTION: Moving all new employees to a 401K program which means 4.5 billion that would need to be put in to prefund it which they would not have so that means NO more money from new employees to retirement fund which means NO PENTION FOR MOST OF US. They do it during these 9 days of holiday break because we are not around. Another thing is stopping union release time. And no release time to do meetings, bargaining, etc.  They also said we cannot do it on school property. WORKERS CHOICE BILL: Says anyone that opts out of union gets nothing. Some district will use this to undermined the union. THIS IS BAD:  No prep no anything for new teachers.
  • RECERTIFY the union every 2 years. Trying to cause problems
  • MEAMATTERS.COM; this is a great informational website (UPDATES)
  • PENSION ATTACK TIME TO ACT: use this to write your legislator PLEASE!!!!OR WE WILL HAVE NO PENTION FOR US!!!!!!!!!!!!
